Martin Herrera (left) landed this huge
Striper the evening of June 23, 2007 at about 7:30 p.m. with
the help of his guide Frank Vilorio.
Herrera spent about 15 minutes fighting the 44.6 lb.
fish in 28 feet of water.
The Striper immediately took off with about 50 feet
of line before Herrera could bring it under control.
The fish was caught using live 8 inch gizzard shad.
The fish was caught off the Kettle Top using a 1 ½
oz. weight to keep the bait down.
The fishing at Elephant Butte has improved for
catching Trophy size Stripers.

The Monster fish was caught on live thread-fin shad
in shallow water by the Dam.
Roman told Frank “that’s a fish of a lifetime, never
caught one that big!”
Vilorio said that the catch is just further proof
that the fishing at Elephant Butte is getting better all of
the time.
